The Glencoe Manner and Museum
The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce would like to welcome the Glencoe Mansion and Museum as a member! Glencoe Mansion, Museum & Gallery is a popular tourist destination in Radford, located at 600 Unruh Drive on a hill overlooking West Main Street. It offers a three-in-one museum experience consisting of a historic residence, history exhibits, and an art gallery. The historic residence occupies the main level of the building, providing insight into the life and times of the Wharton family, who lived there for over a century. The History Exhibits section covers a wide range of topics related to the city and the region, including Native Americans, African Americans, famous citizens, and social and cultural exhibits. The Art Gallery features a new exhibition every two months, showcasing the region’s artistic talent in various mediums and styles.
Visitors can also shop for local works of art at the Gift Shop, open during the same hours as the museum and is an ideal place to find unique gifts. Recently, the Mary Draper Ingles Cultural Heritage Park was added to the Glencoe site, which has been declared a Virginia Treasure by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. This 1.3-acre park includes a picnic area, pathways, an eight-foot bronze statue of Mary Draper Ingles, and interpretive panels on her life and the frontier experience. In addition, the New River Train Observatory provides visitors with a thrilling view of Norfolk Southern trains and the rail bridge over the New River. Donations from individuals and businesses are welcome to support the museum and park. The museum and gift shop are open from Wednesday to Saturday, and Sunday, and there is no admission charge. The facility relies on the work of volunteers, and special skill sets are welcome to bring history and culture to the public. Definitely consider visiting this exceptional museum in order to acquire a more profound understanding of the history that played a crucial role in shaping the Radford community as we know it today.
